On a Wing of Light

On a Wing of Light is a rich display of animated blooms, vivid fruits, and lush foliage from faraway lands projected onto the facade of Museum No. 1.

Projection artwork by NOVAK

Lighting Design by Simon Hayes

Programming by Neil McDowell Smith

The projection is punctuated by surprising and magical moments and blends light, sound, and storytelling. It follows the journey of a hummingbird and draws inspiration from Kew's extensive archive of botanical imagery. Travelling from Brazil to China, then from India to Mexico, Arabia, Northern Europe, and then back to Kew, the story celebrates plants around the world that are central to our Christmas festivities.

On a Wing of Light will be immersed within the surrounding landscape, including the colour-changing lilies (Amazonica) on the pond. The Palm House, which is undergoing refurbishment, will be dark this year.
