Neuron

A seven-metre spherical installation comprised of a series of neuron-shaped structures that draws its inspiration from the fascinating world of neurons and brain connectivity.

The neuron-shaped structures are created using translucent materials and LED lights. Each neuron is intricately designed with mobile branches that consist of light filaments, symbolising the electrical and chemical signals transmitted through neuronal synapses.

Through an artistic representation of neurons and their branches, this work explores the interaction between light, movement, and human perception, becoming a visual metaphor for the nervous system and its ability to connect, transmit information, and generate reactions.

This principle aligns perfectly with the idea of 'To Gather' which explores how people, communities, and ideas connect and form collective networks to generate significant change. The mobile neuronal branches, illuminated by light filaments, visually represent the transmission of signals, just as festivals and events seek to symbolise the transmission of ideas and emotions that bring people together.

The 'Neuron' installation is designed using recycled materials and energy-efficient technology. The structural components of the artwork are 3D printed using PETG plastic from recycled bottles, reducing environmental impact by repurposing plastic waste. Additionally, the lighting consists of high-efficiency LEDs, which minimize energy consumption without compromising light quality. The A-rated power supplies ensure responsible energy use, aligning with the project's sustainability principles.
