Christmas at Dunham Massey

Dunham Massey, Manchester

Runs until 3 January 2026

Christmas at Dunham Massey is a cultural highlight in Manchester's festive calendar

This year the team returned to install the lights for the trail  through the Estate's gardens and woodland. These included a mix of new installations and returning favourites including ‘Tis The Season’, created by Output Arts, which is inspired by classic decorations and childhood memories. These glowing spheres echo the treasured mid-century baubles still held in the Dunham Massey collection from the 1950s, when Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, and his mother, Penelope Grey, lived there.

Other debut features include Shatter, a striking collection of 50 illuminated shards up to 4 metres high, and Fish are Jumping, a playful series of 20 leaping fish by Dutch artists Studio TOER, courtesy Light Art Collection, who programme the annual Light Festival in Amsterdam.

"One of my favourite installations was when the small stream that runs through the woodland had sparks leaping from it, almost like tiny fish jumping out from the water.

***** 4.5 out of five stars

The rainbow tunnel was also particularly cool, with the glowing ribbons hanging from present-shaped frames."
